I primi BAFTA dell’epoca Brexit sono stati assegnati domenica 2 febbraio. Gli “Oscar britannici” per l’eccellenza cinematografica arrivati alla 73esima edizione hanno premiato 1917 di Sam Mendes con sette riconoscimenti tra cui Miglior Film e Miglior Film Britannico.
Al di là del discorso vagamente al vetriolo di Joaquin Phoenix (miglior attore per Joker) non ci sono state sorprese nelle categorie attoriali: Renée Zellwager miglior attrice per Judy, Bradi Pitt e Laura Dern migliori attori di supporto rispettivamente per C’era una volta a Hollywood e Storia di un Matrimonio.
Sorprendono i premi nelle categorie di scrittura per il cinema: miglior adattamento a Taika Waititi per Jojo Rabbit e Miglior Sceneggiatura Originale al coreano Parasite, già vincitore come miglior film non in lingua inglese.
Grandi delusioni per Martin Scorsese e Quentin Tarantino, il primo con The Irishman che, a fronte di ben 10 candidature, non ha ricevuto alcun premio, mentre il secondo con C’era una volta a Hollywood che ha visto solo il già citato premio a Brad Pitt come non protagonista.
